Mounders were large, red-furred, horned quadrupeds raised by the Spriton Clan. Though gentle, they could become aggressive when afflicted with Blud-Rage. Mounders are born with two birth-seeds on their back that eventually grow into trees once they reach maturity. These trees then fall off leaving two broken trunks behind.[1] Thirty trine after the Arathim Wars, a Mounder became a prime suspect in a series of presumed animal attacks investigated by Barfinnious and Hup.[2]

In the continuity established by Legends of the Dark Crystal, Mounders sometimes had trees growing from their fur, and were kept in large herds by the survivors of the Garthim Wars. They were prey to the Rakkida, and were used to fight the Garthim.
